Introducing the Canvas Course Competition!

What makes a good Canvas course site? You tell us, and make your mark on Wake Forest history!

The Student Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) is an IS sponsored student group that helps represent the student body’s voice on technology-related needs and projects. This semester, they are sponsoring a Canvas course design competition, open to all undergraduate students!

How Does it Work?

Over the course of a month, undergraduate students can sign up to receive access to build and develop course templates in Canvas. This is called a “sandbox,” a virtual environment for building and testing software. No coding knowledge is required. Students are limited to one sandbox each.

Once you sign up, you will receive an email that a sandbox course has been created for you. This could take up to two weekdays. Access this course by going to canvas.wfu.edu and logging into Canvas with your WFU credentials. The sandboxes will be available from Tuesday, February 25 – Friday, March 27, but you can sign up in advance with this form. You can sign up anytime before Monday, March 23 at 5pm. The last day to edit your template is Friday, March 27th by 5pm.

Requirements and Judging:

Courses can be as simple, colorful, eccentric, or otherwise created as you would like!

Each course must include:

  • At least three quizzes, three assignments, one exam, one midterm, and one final, to demonstrate the ability to meet class functions.
  • An explanation of why you designed it the way you have. This could be in the form of a note on the homepage, an uploaded document, video, etc.

Course templates will be judged on the explanation, how well it supports class functions, how user-friendly it is, and creativity.

Questions? Please email stac@wfu.edu. This competition is sponsored by STAC, the Student Technology Advisory Committee which represents the student body voice for Information Systems. Interested in joining our committee? Email us!
